The Social Hack: Terms of Sale and Use

Short version: we sell a book, a field kit and an AI coach. Be decent, be 18+, cancel whenever you like. The details follow.

1. Who we are

The Social Hack ("TSH", "we", "us") is run by JAY GEE, operating as The Social Hack. JAY GEE is the author's pen name.

2. What these terms cover

These terms apply to everything you buy or use from TSH: the paperback sold on thesocialhack.co, the Field Kit at kit.thesocialhack.co, AI-JAY (Basic and AI-JAY+), gift passes, claims, promotions and the letters. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data. Our Refund Policy is part of these terms.

Kindle ebook. Amazon sells it under Amazon's terms. Amazon also sells our paperback under its own terms. These terms cover only what comes with the book: the Field Kit and AI-JAY Basic.

Language. The English version is the binding one. Other languages are machine translations to help you read along. Pour les consommateurs du Québec, la version française fait également foi.

3. Who can use TSH

You must be 18 or older to create a Kit account, use AI-JAY or buy anything here. If you're younger, the book is still a good read. The coach isn't for you yet.

4. What you can buy

Prices are in US dollars. Taxes are added at checkout where the law requires it. Shipping is shown before you pay. Your bank may charge currency conversion fees; we don't.

5. Subscriptions and automatic renewal

1. Renewal. AI-JAY+ (monthly, 6-month and 12-month) and the Basic monthly plan renew automatically at the end of each period. Each renewal is charged at the price you agreed to, to the card you used, until you cancel.
2. Cancel any time, online. Open the Kit, sign in, then go to Kit tab → Manage subscription → Cancel. No call, no email and no reason needed. Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep access until the paid period ends.
3. Reminders. For 6-month and 12-month plans we email you 30 to 45 days before each renewal with the date, the price and how to cancel. Monthly plans get a reminder at least every 6 months.
4. After a renewal of a 6-month or 12-month plan, you can still cancel. We refund the unused full months, within 15 days.
5. Price changes. We tell you 30 days before a new price applies. The email explains how to cancel first. If you don't want the new price, cancel and pay nothing more.
6. Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, Stripe retries it for a short time. If it still fails, AI-JAY+ stops. We never charge you late fees.

6. Refunds (short version)

In short: a paperback can be refunded until printing begins. After that, only misprinted or factory-damaged copies may be refunded, after personal review. Gift passes may be refunded until redemption. Kindle follows Amazon's rules. AI-JAY+ can be refunded within 14 days of your first purchase of that plan. Otherwise, AI-JAY subscriptions can't be refunded for a change of mind once bought. Refund requests are usually processed within 10 business days. When a subscription is refunded, it ends and paid access stops right away.

None of this limits your rights under local consumer law. In the EU, the UK and Australia, and for renewals in British Columbia, see the Refund Policy for the extra rights you have.

7. AI-JAY: what it is and what it isn't

• AI-JAY is an AI. It is not Jay. It is not a human. Answers are generated by a large language model (provided by xAI) that we've instructed with the book's methods. Jay doesn't read or write your answers.
• It's a coach, not a therapist. It is a training manual for social confidence. It is not medical, psychological, legal or financial advice. It doesn't diagnose or treat anything. If you're dealing with a mental-health condition, talk to a licensed professional.
• It can be wrong. Use your judgement. You're responsible for what you do with an answer.
• Topics. AI-JAY doesn't do sexual content (light romance only). It may decline or redirect any request.
• Daily limits reset once a day. They're shown in the Kit.
• May not be suitable for some minors. That's one reason TSH is 18+.

How AI-JAY handles a crisis (our published protocol)

If a message suggests someone may be in danger, of self-harm or suicide, AI-JAY stops coaching and replies with:

If you are in danger right now, call [your local emergency number] now. If you are in the US or Canada call or text 988, the crisis line, open 24/7.

Outside the US and Canada, the second sentence becomes: "You can find a crisis line for your country at findahelpline.com."

It also tells the person to reach one trusted person now. AI-JAY never tells anyone how to harm themselves. We don't contact emergency services, because we don't know where you are. We review this protocol every 6 months.

8. Acceptable use

Don't use TSH to:

• harass, stalk, manipulate, deceive or pressure anyone, or to get around someone's "no";
• share other people's private information (last names, addresses, their private lives);
• get sexual content, or anything involving minors;
• break the law, or try to break, scrape, overload, reverse-engineer or get around our limits or security;
• resell, share or publish your account, codes or AI-JAY answers as a service.

We may suspend access if you do. If it's serious, we'll close the account and refund any unused prepaid time, unless the law says otherwise or the abuse caused the loss.

9. Your stuff, our stuff, and the Kit licence

• The book, the Kit, AI-JAY's prompts and design, and the TSH name and marks belong to JAY GEE.
• Kit licence. While you have access, you get a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the Field Kit and AI-JAY for yourself. Book codes are for the copy's owner. Don't share them.
• What you type stays yours. You let us process it only to answer you and run the service (see the Privacy Policy). We don't use your questions to train AI models, and neither does xAI.
• AI-JAY's answers are yours to use for yourself.

10. Promotions, gifts and the Founders

• US$2 welcome code. US$2 off one paperback. Shipping is charged as usual. One per email and per address, and up to 250 codes in total. It may be off. No cash value.
• Book claims (/claim). If you bought the book elsewhere (Amazon, Kindle or Audible), you can claim 9 months of AI-JAY Basic. A person reviews every claim. One claim per order and per person. We may refuse a claim we can't verify. Audible claims open the Field Kit only.
• 7-day AI-JAY+ window. Every approved claim (and every direct buyer, at first access) gets a free 7-day AI-JAY+ window. It starts within 30 days. It never renews and costs nothing.
• Founders 500. The first 500 readers who buy their own paperback on this site take a Founders seat. It is not a discount. Everyone pays the same price. Gift copies don't take a seat. We say publicly when it closes.
• Gift passes. AI-JAY+ for 1, 6 or 12 months, paid once. They never renew. Refundable until redeemed. A gift pass code doesn't expire. The buyer can add the recipient's email and a note. We keep them for 30 days after we send the gift.

11. Paperback orders

• Printed to order by Lulu and shipped from the Lulu print facility closest to you. We ship to Canada, the US, Australia.
• Delivery estimate. Checkout shows an estimated delivery date. If your copy hasn't arrived 30 days after that date, tell us. You can cancel for a full refund, or we'll send a replacement.
• Customs and import charges: Any import duties or taxes charged by your country are paid by you.

12. Pair practice (when it opens)

18+ only. You choose what you share. Audio and video only if both people agree. Don't record anyone without their consent. Report misconduct to us, and we may remove anyone from pairing.

13. Changes to TSH and to these terms

We improve the Kit and AI-JAY all the time. If we make a change that materially reduces what you've paid for, we'll tell you first. You can then cancel and get a refund for the unused prepaid time.

If we change these terms, we'll email you at least 30 days (no more than 60) before the change applies. The email says what changed and how to cancel. Changes never take away refunds you were already owed. Your current price never changes without the notice in §5.

14. Liability

• We provide TSH with reasonable care and skill. We don't promise any particular result, date or relationship.
• Where the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the larger of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US$50. We're not liable for losses we couldn't reasonably foresee.
• Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that can't be limited by law. That includes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or under the statutory guarantees and warranties of your consumer law (for example the Ontario Consumer Protection Act, 2002, Quebec's Consumer Protection Act, the Australian Consumer Law, and UK and EU consumer law).

15. Disputes

• If you're a consumer, you also keep the mandatory protections of the place where you live. You can bring a claim in your local courts.
• We'd rather fix it than fight about it. Write to us first, and a real person will answer within 10 business days.
• No forced arbitration and no class-action waiver. You keep every right you have to go to court, including through a class action.

16. Where you live: extra rights

• EU/EEA and UK: 14-day withdrawal rights apply as described in the Refund Policy §4.
• Australia: our goods and services come with guarantees that the Australian Consumer Law doesn't let us exclude. If AI-JAY or a paperback has a major failure, you can cancel and get a refund. For a minor failure, we'll fix it within a reasonable time.
• Quebec: Quebec consumer law applies to you.
• California: you can cancel online as described in §5. We keep a record of your consent and send the acknowledgement described in our checkout copy.

In short

In short: a paperback can be refunded until printing begins. After that, only misprinted or factory-damaged copies may be refunded, after personal review. Gift passes may be refunded until redemption. Kindle follows Amazon's rules. AI-JAY+ can be refunded within 14 days of your first purchase of that plan. Otherwise, AI-JAY subscriptions can't be refunded for a change of mind once bought. Decisions typically take from 5 to 10 business days.

None of this limits your rights under local consumer law. In the EU, the UK and Australia, and for renewals in British Columbia, you have extra rights: see below.

1. Paperback (bought on this site)

• Before printing begins: cancel for a full refund, including shipping. Printing usually starts within 2 business days of your order.
• After printing: we refund (or replace) a copy that arrives misprinted or factory-damaged. Send a defect report with a photo within 30 days of delivery. A person reviews it.
• Not delivered: if it hasn't arrived 30 days after the estimated delivery date, you can cancel for a full refund (or ask for a replacement).
• Bought on Amazon? Amazon's return rules apply.

2. Kindle ebook

Kindle follows Amazon's rules. Ask Amazon.

3. AI-JAY subscriptions (AI-JAY+ monthly, 6-month and 12-month; Basic monthly)

• AI-JAY+: you can get a refund within 14 days of your first purchase of that plan, for any reason. After that, and for Basic monthly, AI-JAY subscriptions can't be refunded for a change of mind.
• Stop the next renewal any time: Kit tab → Manage subscription → Cancel. You keep access until the period ends.
• Something broken, or charged by mistake? Tell us and a real person will sort it. If AI-JAY+ doesn't work as described and we can't fix it, we refund you.
• After a 6-month or 12-month plan renews: you can cancel and we refund the unused full months within 15 days.

4. EU/EEA and UK: your 14-day right to withdraw

If you live in the EU/EEA or the UK:

• AI-JAY subscriptions and passes: you can withdraw within 14 days of buying. Because you asked us to start straight away, you pay only for the days you used (pro rata), and we refund the rest within 14 days. After 14 days, the change-of-mind rule in §3 applies.
• How to withdraw: use the "Withdraw from contract here" button in the Kit tab (or on our refunds page), or email us a clear statement. You can use the model withdrawal form below, but you don't have to.

5. Australia

Our goods and services come with guarantees that can't be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For a major failure with a service, you can cancel and get a refund for any unused portion, or compensation for its drop in value. You're also entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure with goods, and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. If the failure isn't major, you can have the goods repaired or replaced, or the problem with the service fixed.

6. Gift passes

• Refundable to the buyer until it's redeemed.
• Once redeemed, it's the recipient's. It never renews.
• An unredeemed pass doesn't expire.

7. AI-JAY Basic, 9 more months (one-time)

• Same as §3: no refund for a change of mind once it's on. Faults get fixed or refunded. EU/UK buyers: §4 applies.

How decisions work

Each refund request is individually reviewed and processed usually within a period of 10 business days. Approved refunds go back to the original payment method. After a subscription refund, the plan ends right away and your account moves to Basic.
